DE Celebrates Black History!
Every February, we take time to celebrate Black History and its profound impact on our world. The art of dance is deeply intertwined with Black History, as Black dancers, choreographers, and culture have helped shape the dance landscape we know today. This year at the studio, our NHSDA students created short videos highlighting a Black dance artist of their choice.
NHSDA, our National Honor Society for Dance Arts, is an honors program that dancers can apply to join. Membership considers not only how many hours a week they dance, but also their academic achievement and commitment to community service. The projects these dancers created counted toward their service hours, as learning about and sharing Black History helps our community recognize and appreciate the amazing contributions Black artists have made to dance.

This summer, from July 6th through July 10th, we will be dancing, learning, and discovering the legacies of influential Black dancers during our “African American Pioneers in Dance” week.
