Performing With a Purpose

“Art is the highest form of hope,” (German painter, Gerhard Richter). The art of dance, while it has its great personal rewards, is about more than just the dancer themselves. As a performance art, dance is meant to be shared with others. Recently, some of our Dance Expressions Company Dancers were invited to share their love of dance at the 3rd Annual HOPE Dance Concert alongside other local dancers.

On Sunday, October 15th, our DE dancers took to the stage with Greater Annapolis Ballet, Level Dance Project, AACC Dance Company, and New Motions Dance Center to present a concert, benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Established in 1987, the AFSP is a voluntary health organization giving those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education, and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

This was the second time Dance Expressions has performed in the HOPE concert. We were so glad to be welcomed back. This year, the concert was held outside at Anne Arundel Community College’s CADE Amphitheatre. It was a sunny, breezy fall afternoon, and our dancers truly shined and inspired their audience. Company dancers performed three pieces: Me in 20 Years, choreographed by Ms. India Blake, Retrograde, and Wondering, choreographed by Ms. Pam Schrier.

We all left thankful for the opportunity to support such a meaningful cause with our DE dance family alongside other local artists. We are beyond proud of our dancers for using their passion, the art of dance, to bring much needed hope to our world.
