Survey Says Summer Camp at Dance Expressions Was Awesome!!! 2024 Summer Camps are Open for Enrollment!

During our last day of 2023 summer dance camp, we asked our dancers how they felt about summer camps at Dance Expressions and the answers were awesome! Our summer camp dancers have taken classes in all styles of dance- ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, tap, and contemporary. We also explored salsa, K-Pop, musical theatre, and folk dance. Summer gave us time to expand our dance education. Campers learned the history of dance and the arts, exploring their own creative and artistic abilities through games, projects, and STEAM experiments.

Each week had its own unique and amazing theme. During Broadway Bound Week- students explored themes of acceptance, friendship, standing out as different and standing up for others. Highlights included set and costume design, and face painting!

African American Pioneers in Dance Week- explored the contributions and lasting impact of Black artists in dance. Dancers learned about Janet Collins, Alvin Ailey, Michaela DePrince, the Nicholas Brothers, and Tina Turner, to name a very few! Dancers designed their own business that would uplift the Black community and created a “patchwork quilt” highlighting all the amazing artists they learned about.

We took a trip around the world exploring influences and styles of dance from all over the globe at Dance Cultures Around the World Week- Dancers loved traveling to Brazil, South Africa, India, France, Poland, Cuba, Russia, Korea, and the Pacific Islands!

Mind, Body, Soul Week taught our dancers how music, movement and art can convey emotion, build confidence, and inspire others. We learned mindfulness and stress management tools, as well as anatomy and how to keep our bodies strong and healthy. This lead us to choreograph our own pieces, journal, and make masterpieces!

DE was the happiest place on earth during Dancing Through Disney Week! We found the magic of Disney musicals right here at home. Our dance classes and art activities focused on the journeys of the characters in the films! If this week had a theme song it would be Toy Stories “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” This was our biggest camp of the season, and we magical friendships were created this week.

To finish out our summer of dance strong, we took on Get up and Groove Week. We moved and grooved to the music with classes in all styles! Dancers learned about conditioning and strength exercises so that they can be strong for the new year of dance! We also worked as a team in relay races and problem solving games.

Three out of the six weeks our youngest campers spent the mornings with us exploring the magical world of make believe at Storybook Camp! We read, learned about different characters, focused on building confidence, creativity and exploration, and of course we DANCED!
